Don't know about mutations, but it apparently can cause organ damage.ckafrica wrote:PL do you have a citation for #5?
Bullshit like engineering corn to produce pesticides is exactly why people think that GM foods aren't safe. Which they are, unless you specifically engineer them to produce poison. Christ.

I'm afraid its from a documentary I watched casually on TV, I don't even have the name, but it was from a reputable channel.ckafrica wrote:PL do you have a citation for #5?
I recall it very specifically though because the whole thing with actual genetic modifications jumping across to the consuming animal was a really big thing because at the time it was claimed that it wasn't possible.
Though apparently the mutations jumping across to bacteria living in your guts is now rather widely recognized as a common occurrence.
Look this guy here seems to be on top of this one, plenty of references in his material too. And knowing Monsanto's history I believe everything he says about the test results they are trying to pretend don't exist.
Oh, and apparently Monsanto is now claiming a patent on the Pig. In general. All of them. They say they own the pig. Really. Give them money if you dare to breed one. Etc...
I've found a cool Monsanto documentary, I'm going to watch it and see if its the one I remember.

Sure. Why not? Monsanto owns "corn" and "wheat" and I think "rice".Koumei wrote:Wait, they own all pigs now? What the fuck?
The government of the US let people put patents on genes that that they discovered through sequencing and identification. Which would be vaguely justifiable as a way to encourage private research (I mean, I would hope that th guy who discovered heat-resistance polymerase has a mercedes full of cheerleaders), except that they decided that owning a patent on the gene did not simply allow you to own inserting that gene transgenicly into new organisms. Apparently "owning" the gene allows you to own every process that references that gene or which duplicates that gene.
But any gene gets duplicated every time a cell grows. And you know, billions upon billions of times every time an organism reproduces. So that definition of gene ownership is fucking insane.

Don't forget 'soy', their first victory.
Since they didn't insert the gene for making their soy infertile, it bred with all the soy of the world. No one in the world can grow soy without their genes in it now because it spread by the winds.
When Monsanto decides to roll into town and test your seeds, they will find their gene and then sue the guy with the seed ricer and put him out of business so the farmers must buy Monsanto seeds.
They don't even have an option to grow the seeds they've been growing for the last hundred years.

Yummy! Ammonia-Treated Pink Slime Now in Most U.S. Ground Beef
I'm feeling sick just reading this
According to today's New York Times, The "majority of hamburger" now sold in the U.S. now contains fatty slaughterhouse trimmings "the industry once relegated to pet food and cooking oil," "typically including most of the material from the outer surfaces of the carcass" that contains "larger microbiological populations."
This "nasty pink slime," as one FDA microbiologist called it, is now wrung in a centrifuge to remove the fat, and then treated with AMMONIA to "retard spoilage," and turned into "a mashlike substance frozen into blocks or chips".

My wife showed me a video of this. They pack it into cardboard boxes in these horrible looking cubes.tzor wrote:Yummy! Ammonia-Treated Pink Slime Now in Most U.S. Ground Beef

I heard about that on NPR on Friday. Basically, funds were cut to programs that would keep people out of jail before their trial, which save huge amounts to tax-payers for not having to house them, but the bail bondsmen complained that this was hurting their business. So, they lobbied heavily to get rid of the program.CatharzGodfoot wrote:Bail bonds subsidized by government, kick backs to officials.
End result: the tax payers take a huge burden so the bail bondsmen can make a fraction of that.

Story of an American hero.
"I'm not inviting people to do anything. I'd like them to think. I do think that helping people control their fertility is highly consistent with helping people be responsible citizens of the planet. If somebody misunderstands it or tries to distort it, I don't give a shit. I'm sorry, I'm living in this country because I can say what I think."

"What brings you here?" Dr Hern asked.
"I have to have an abortion."
"Why?"
"I'm not old enough to have a baby."
"But you told the counsellor we should all be killed?"
"Yes, you should all be killed."
"Why?"
"Because you do abortions."
"Me too?"
"Yes, you should be killed, too."
"Do you want me killed before or after I do your abortion?"
"Before."

Thanks for sharing that. Talk about rage-inducing. Fucking conservative assholes.CatharzGodfoot wrote:Story of an American hero.
Prison bans DND.
Also, that rape thing is horrific. Reminds me of this airforce forum I read last year where officers were bragging about how a large percentage of women started retracting their rape accusations after being subjected to harsh interrogation. Despicable.
